Purpose of Position
The Business Development (BD) role is responsible for developing new prospective customers with high potential by driving end-to-end and value-added solution selling across all products, while delivering a unique customer experience with a strong customer focus in East Malaysia.

 

Key Tasks

Sales Management

  • Ensure compliance with all global sales policies, processes, and guidelines.

Customer Engagement

  • Drive the growth of new accounts by fostering appropriate collaboration within the Sales team and across Product functions.
  • Strengthen customer relationships through engagement with key stakeholders in the branch.
  • Focus on selling end-to-end and value-added solutions across all products in alignment with strategic priorities outlined in the Account Growth Plan.
  • Personally engage with all key decision-makers within the assigned business units.

Sales Planning

  • Conduct cold calls and customer visits to identify and qualify leads, building a strong opportunity pipeline.
  • Maintain existing accounts and develop new trade lanes to support business growth.
  • Propose account targets, especially for new accounts not currently trading with the company, to drive new business growth.

Sales Review

  • Attend bi-weekly review meetings.
  • Review account pipeline (including ad hoc requests and RFQs), activities, and performance.
  • Monitor and assess up-trading, down-trading, loss-making, and newly gained trade lanes on a monthly basis, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure any concerns or complaints from assigned accounts are promptly escalated to the relevant stakeholders or departments.

Collaboration and Transparency

  • Foster collaboration among all product departments within the branch.
  • Ensure the New Account Growth Plan is well understood and supported across the branch.
  • Use MS Dynamics for all opportunities, ensuring timely entry and accurate assignment of sales cycles, volumes, and gross profit data.

Processes, Risk & QHSE Compliance

  • Ensure SLAs and SOPs are maintained on SharePoint/ShareDrive.
  • Lead contract negotiations to secure optimal terms and conditions in line with company policy, and ensure all signed contracts and addendums are properly stored in the contract management system.
  • Drive data quality improvements in MS Dynamics.
  • Perform assigned tasks in alignment with DSV’s objectives and targets related to quality, health, safety, and environment, as documented on SharePoint.
  • Follow all requirements as outlined in the QHSE policy.
  • Ensure that daily activities support sustainability, health and safety, reduce environmental impact, support local communities, and minimize workplace incidents.

 

Experience & Education

  • Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Marketing, or Logistics preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a sales role, preferably within the Logistics/Freight Forwarding industry.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Conversational proficiency in languages relevant to assigned accounts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients in East Malaysia.
  • Strong understanding of customer strategies, expectations, and constraints to tailor solutions effectively.
  • Stay updated on market trends and industry developments specific to East Malaysia.
  • Take ownership of account management, including performance, financials, and operational excellence.
  • In-depth knowledge of local market dynamics and customer behavior in East Malaysia.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven with a strong sense of ownership.
